Organizing Your Holiday Decor Now for an Easier Season Next Year

As you bring out the holiday decorations and start adding a little sparkle around your home, it’s the perfect moment to build in some simple organizing habits. A few intentional steps now—while you’re decorating or packing up later—can make next year’s setup smoother, faster, and much more enjoyable.
And remember: even doing just one or two of these ideas can make a big impact.
Declutter as You Go
As you unpack, take a moment to pull out anything broken, worn out, or that you simply don’t enjoy anymore. Toss non-working lights (you’ll know exactly what to replace next year!) and donate decor you no longer use. A little decluttering now keeps the holiday stash manageable.
Create a Quick Inventory
No need to overthink it—use the notes app on your phone, a simple spreadsheet, or a list taped to a storage bin. Helpful things to track include:
Number of light strands and whether they’re working
Types of ornaments or décor themes
Gift wrap supplies
Special items like wreath hangers or stockings
A brief inventory keeps you from buying duplicates and makes it easier to plan ahead next year.
Label Bins Clearly
Labels are a gift to your future self. Try sorting by:
Room (Tree Decor, Mantel, Kitchen, etc.)
Category (Outdoor Lights, Gift Wrap, Ornaments)
Color-coding bins or adding quick descriptions makes next year’s unpacking effortless.
Refresh Your Wrapping Supplies
Take a moment to recycle scraps, combine partial rolls, and toss crushed gift boxes. Store everything in a dedicated container or organizer, so it’s tidy, easy to access, and ready for next year.
Pack With Purpose
When the season winds down, wrap fragile items carefully and group like with like. The more intentional your storage now, the easier and more joyful decorating will feel next December.
You don’t need to overhaul everything—even a single small step can create big relief next year. And if organizing during the busy holiday season feels overwhelming, the WBC team is always here to help you simplify, streamline, and love your home a little more.
Warm holiday wishes,
